Leeds Dental Students Help Raise Smiles and Money for Cambodia
Anna, Ektaa and Ria, three dental students from Leeds Dental Institute, travelled to Vietnam and Cambodia in Summer 2011 as part of their elective. Having raised money from family and friends, as well as sponsorship from GlaxoSmithKline and Integrated Dental Holdings, they volunteered on the Smiles & Hopes programme, predominantly in Phnom Penh. This gave them opportunities to work alongside Cambodian final year dental students and to perform procedures on many of the orphans.
With the money raised GCDFund were able to purchase Duraphat fluoride varnish for distribution amongst the Smiles & Hopes partner orphanages, ensuring protection for these vulnerable children.
On returning to the UK Anna, Ektaa and Ria continued to raise funds for One-2-One and the work of Smiles & Hopes which we are so grateful for.
